Moin, Die 4. 🍃 Hey, The fourth week of veg is over. The White Sweet Candy OG looks incredibly healthy and is just bursting with energy. I really like how it’s coming along so far. I’ve tied down the top two main shoots a few times using LST so that all four shoots stay at the same height and the growth is evenly distributed. Other than that, I’ve only removed a few leaves that would have blocked the lower shoots. The strain, however, hasn’t been fazed by this and continues to grow undeterred. I wish more strains would behave this way. I haven’t increased the EC any further, and in the coming days I’ll be sending them into flowering. I’m already looking forward to buds as thick as possible and a sweet terpene profile. 🍃

Getting there, glad to see the one pheno seems to be side branching decently. Will just carry on tieing down side branches and main.Weathers been great but definitely getting cooler.Looking foward to their first fully saturated fertigation to runoff during the week if the good weather persists.

Week 1 of the latest cycle and starting out with some new hardware and an expanded grow print👍. We’re running 4 autos via a recirculating Dutch bucket system. First time on a dutchy so it’s gonna be interesting to see how it stacks up against DWC. I’ll give a full rundown on the system I’ve cobbled together on the next update. So far - all seedlings have germ’d without issue using the standard p-towel method. Why more people don’t use this method on GD is beyond me. It’s so reliable that some breeders even warranty your seeds if you use this method and more than 1 seed fails to crack. We’ve got little sprouts coming up now and it’s all just waiting for those first couple fan leaves to come out and those roots to run to the bottom of each bucket. They’ve been placed in root riot cubes (essentially a version of rapid rooters) like most of our runs and I’d recommend their use with all autos. Time and stress on young autos is key so they need the absolute best start you can give them👌. End of week update - looks like we got 4 quality little seedlings here👍. Alls good other than battling a ph issue for most of the week. Keeps spiking overnight for no real reason - hopefully it’ll even out and isn’t the early sign of a major problem🤞. Background The strain line up on this grow is look’n quite saucy 😈. We’ve got 2 FB strains this time around - Gorilla Cookies (seems we always have some GSC cross in the works). Mainly because the colours look stellar and remind me of a sugar breathe we did last year that was 🔥. The other FB is their original Cheese strain... because we already smoked all our cheese... and we really like our cheese...😉. Emerald triangle was kind enough to include a freebie of Lemon Haze. Wasn’t really big on the list but we haven’t done a haze strain to write home about yet so worth a go👍. The last is a Cherry auto from Bomb seeds that we’ve been trying to get to for months. Let’s just hope that she’s not a dud like the last bean. The new digs for this run are courtesy MarsHydro👊. Their 2x4 single grow tent, paired with a shiny new 240w QB courtesy ViparSpectra. These folks were kind enough to discuss a collaboration and as a result, here we are to test out the gear with an inaugural run of autos. Each week, we’ll try to expand on some of the benefits of each, as well as any limiting factors or considerations that need attention when pondering purchase. Already I can say that both are high quality products in terms of overall craftsmanship. MarsHydro 2x4 Grow Tent: Excellent construction in terms of durability. Reinforced stitching on the zippers and corners ensures zero tearing. Conveniently placed screen vents and intake/exhaust ports. The ceiling exhaust port only exists on the right side. Perfect for me but not great if you’re running exhaust from the top on the left side (left side wall port makes up for this however). The aluminum frame is rigid enough to support the weight of the lights and accessories. Once you have some weight in the tent, she’s go’n nowhere and you can assemble and break it down in record time if moving or stashing the grow op. Only limiting factors I’ve noticed is that temp. Control will be an issue for a tent. It just doesn’t have the same insulating ability as a wood cabinet or other permanent enclosed space. No worries, this is offset by a small desktop heater and keeps the environment exactly where desired. The other issue was a production problem - the ceiling vent was accidentally stitched into the corner seams on the assembly line. Again, no real issue - just pulled it out with no damage or fraying to the tent or port👍. Closest comparable to it that I’ve seen would be spiderfarmers line of qbs. They feature the same top-o-the-line components and roughly similar spectrums. Where VS takes the advantage is in the convenience of the dimmer nob which is easily accessible and works great at 50% with no strobing👍. The heat sink is also larger which contributes to lower temps. That’s not a good thing in my case but beneficial for most folks. I can already say that this will be a great fixture through all stages of growth. Where I know this light will excel will be in the veg. Stage for sure. Dimming function gives seedlings a much better chance of success with the ability to use lower lighting levels early on and the coverage area on a 240w is great. The average grower will find this panel suitable and fitting to their needs in a 2x4 grow space although I’d suggest 2 units if going any larger than that. The total output in this space equates to about 30w/sq.ft. Which is a decent amount of coverage based on power vs. Growprint. Ideal for veg. Certainly but, in flower - I tend to run closer to 50-60w/sq.ft to achieve higher yields. Again, similar fixtures have performed admirably in the past and while this wouldn’t be considered an “entry-level” fixture, I’d recommend that any grower new to the game not skimp on lighting and start with one of these. The price points are a great value for quality LED tech. These days, so there’s little reason to even consider a lesser fixture👍. I have no detail on limiting factors for this light as yet but have heard that stock branded fixtures don’t necessarily incorporate enough red diodes. I’ve seen no issue myself but confess - I’m no lighting guru. I will just water from here on out. The fade is starting and I am just watering when dry for the last 2 weeks before harvest. 2 of the girls are a week or 2 behind. I might make hash rosin from them and the trim. the 2 good ones are going to the jars for curing and then we will have to wait for winter for the next grow to avoid the heat in the Garage/grow room. keep growing strong.

Even though it says 80 Gallon pot, it’s really 400, it just glitches out when I enter 400 and converts to say only 80. I know she looks bad! I know. She has only been managing a nutrient lockout with horribly low pH for far too long! The Hydrated Lime has indeed fixed the pH! Resulting in my next inbound set of problems. The original soil from the second 2.3L pot she was in was too strong! She needs to get her roots out into the larger pot, but that only gives her so much more space. Plus in that larger black plastic pot, the hot dry sun at 7,000 ft in elevation, really heats up those pots! When it’s 98F later, that sounds like torture! Maybe it was enough to balance out the more concentrated stuff towards the inside of the root mass. But I don’t want her roots to stop there! The time is now for her to go into the 400!!! The soil is 6.5 pH through and through. The peas are about to bloom! She has just avoided lockout and is picking up momentum! The 400 gives her a huge diameter for her roots! Something I sincerely hope her genetics will take advantage of. The soil is rich and alive! The temps in 400 will be so much better! Now I must prepare for my Arch Nemesis! The Butterfly!!!!!! Lol But seriously. They find my plants attractive, and decide to serve my plants as food for their offspring!!!! Not okay! Last year their success rate on my plants was a fat 0!! But they did some serious damage! I am prepared this year!! I will watch with vigilance for any butterflies around my plants specifically. I will spray my plants down regularly with diatomaceous earth! Not too much obviously! I know less is more when spraying that stuff! No mother wants to give her children food with razor blades in it! And as always there is always next year! I can’t let a phase of mice and men get the better of me. However!!… that’s what I said LAST YEAR!!!! Lol. This year IS next year! Anyways she looks rough right now on Day 58 but I tell yah what, she has very recently made a dramatic turnaround for the better!! …I hope! Happy Growing! StrongTrees💪🌳

I started flushing her on day 51, the buds already look like they’re swelling more aggressively. She is also expressing some dark purple tones on the buds up top. I had an issue with her almost falling over on herself so I gave her some resistance towards the opposite side. A few more flushes and I’ll cut her down. Day 60- her purple tones have really been showing up, today they were very noticeable, still no sign of amber trichomes, the majority are cloudy though.

D-70 : At this stage, I'm a bit.... surprised that the Desfrans are not taller thant they are. The smallest one is 35cm wich is really small for a 100% sativa strain. The tallest one is about 56cm, wich is also quiet small I think. If I compare with some other diaries, the tallest one could be in the target if we take into account that I trained them a lot during their first weeks. But the small one is almost the half she should be... There's no sign of deficency, none ! I have 420w @ 50 cm from the top, so it's not because of the light. The container is a 20L smartpot. I simply do not understand. Is it juste because of that phenotype ? Will she grow during the next 7-9 weeks untill she'll recover her late ? I Modified a bit the position of the light so the Lumatek 100w FullSpectrum on the side of the box is really pointed to the "slow" girls. We'll see if it change anything but I really doubt about it... The only lead I have is : Desfran loves HEAT and Light. The 2 smallest are on the coldest side of the box, even if it's not cold at all. But it is the side near the window...

Spun 180⁰ to finish on my sun side for last week. She's not too stinky, buds are big, thick, and dense. Turning the humidity way down, no rain to worry about. 2 weeks max, then she'll be in the dark before the chop.

The plant looks good. In these days the temperature outside are very cold (about 5 celsius), but in the box there is a electric radiator connected to a control unit (inkbird): every time the temperature goes under 20.7 C the radiator turn on. Yesterday I broke the holding pulley of the lamp😰 so I had to hold it with a wire. it will remain that way for 2 days, I've already bought a new pulley from internet. Anyway I defoliated the purple punch to bring the light to the apicals. Every 3 days it puts out new leaf, incredible! I used 10ml of flora grow , 6ml of flora micro (hard water) 5ml of flora bloom and 5 ml of cal-mag directly in the solution edit: I resolved the problem with the lamp. I top up the solution with 10l of water in wich I put 20ml of flora grow, 12ml of flora micro, 6ml of flora bloom and 10ml of cal-mag. I also used 10ml of pH- directly in the solution to lower the level of the pH (6.3-6.4 at the moment). Everything look ok😀

I really failed at the beginning of this grow with not putting up any kind of netting or trellis. I’ve had to put bamboo in the pots and and wrap string around that way the branches can rest on it. I’ve noticed the buds are getting fatter.
