How did you create/breed Freakshow? A. Methodical selection, line breeding, and culling is the short answer. Read our About page for more details. Q. Is it an indoor or outdoor type? A. Everything I've ever worked has been outdoors, including of course Freakshow. In the 70s in Santa Cruz, Haze was a favorite among surfers for the pure energy and I still have (greatly improved) stock of it around, simply because even when I made hybrids with it I always kept the original in pure form for obvious reasons. Q. What is the psychoactive effect like? A. Like the flavors, many people have commented that the "buzz" is somewhat different than other mainstream types out there. It's not entirely out of the scope of imagination that given that this strain has new alleles in so many other respects, that it could also contain new, unique cannabinoids, as well as new and unique terpenoids, some of which may not even be among the standard 16 or so that the average lab is testing for. Aside from the up, cerebral, energetic boost, some report a mild time/space warp effect. Creativity and idea induction should be mentioned, for sure. I thought I better clarify this because there are a few people thinking that because of an article "Growing Marijuana that Doesn't look like Marijuana" that mentions that I had worked web-leaf types years ago and had eventually turned that into Freakshow. This is incorrect and I'm needing to get ahold of the writer to have him change it. When I read the piece and saw the mistake I figured it didn't matter that much, that the actual method of breeding could just remain a "trade secret". Recently, I noticed online that a posting, "Freakshow only exists because of duckfoot" by Curious Cannabis Connoisseur, where he explains how I developed Freakshow using Duckfoot. Let me explain, about 20 yrs. ago a friend gave me a jar of seeds labeled "BC Bigbud" and I sprouted flats of hundreds to look for oddities and had found one web-leaf pheno which we named Webster. It was a female so I bred it to a normal leaf male and began selecting and stabilizing a line of Webster. About 5 or 6 generations later I had nailed it to 100% webs and had also stabilized it for a deep purple color and a nice "gingerbread" terp profile. I was busy working other lines at that point so I put Webster in the library. Also, I was having a hell of a time getting a pheno of it that flowered to my satisfaction. (it seemed to finish with a limited number of calyxes). I knew I would have to outcross it to something with a big tasty bud and restabilize it for web-leaf, and I no longer had the original BC Bigbud. I still have the Webster seeds, and trust me the thought has crossed my mind to make the cross with Freakshow, but why? Why mess around crossing things just to create something even weirder? I have heard that the "Duckfoot" also doesn't bud up well so maybe there's a correlation there. Anyway, people can do what they want to and I will too, but crossing Freakshow with some low-THC crap like ABC is in my opinion idiotic. I worked extremely hard stabilizing and perfecting a beautiful new subspecies and I believe it should be kept pure. I won't go on a rant here about the rampant crossing and the lack of line-breeding in the cannabis world in the last several decades, or where this will eventually lead us, but I will say that it's not in a good direction. Bottom line....Freakshow has no web-leaf genes, it was made using top-grade tropical narrow-leaf drug (NLD) cultivars. Q.Why is Freakshow patented? A. Although I and most others (including all the folks at HSC) believe in and subscribe to the concept of "open sourcing" because sharing in cannabis genetics was always the cultural norm, it was decided that Freakshow should be protected (1) because it is a novel and unique, not a preexisting strain (or even subspecies), (2) To keep the greedy corporate big boys from exploiting it, (3) To maintain control of the genetic refinement of it in all future generations. This diary should have been updated a long time ago but the lack of time and mine reluctance to actually go back to the time of harvest, I did delete most of photographs of the harvest in rage as it was not a nice memory for me, here is why. So the last update i made to the diary was on 19 September and already then i knew something was brewing because we had a week long rain spell and it did not look like it was about to stop at that and the weather forecast showed a month more of rain. Without that rain and high RH i would probably give them girls one more week under the SE 7000 :/ The weather forecast was unfortunately right, so all in all we had around six week of relentless rain...outside it was from 90 to 95% RH in my house it was mostly 85%RH and in my grow room which is located in a basement i had from 60 to 63%RH with lights and dehumidifier on and around 70% with lights off. And that was a killer for my tightly packt grow room. What i did was to open all the walls from the grow room at dark time and had two big external fans blowing air at my plants but it did not help much... My first observation of bud rot was on 24 of September while making photographs of the beautiful buds. That week i lost to bud rot 4 bud stems, after the chop while drying i found another 5 infected stems, and by final trim just before jaring them i removed one more. So all together i lost to bud rot 10 bud stems, four of them were really big ones. I had made some pictures of the buds with bud rot and of the buds hangin in drying room but they did not survive my dark mood :( Sot thats the reason i got only few photographs to show for it. The final weighing was actually not as bad and lightened my mood a bit, that and that that i did not found any more mold on my cured Killer Kush :) So the dry weight after curing was 720 gram of dry bud I still till today did not make # from all the trimmings...but the trimmings are properly dried and waiting for bubble bugs in my freezer. After this learning experience i decided to add at least one more 30W air mixing internal fan, and i did get to know one of my relatives possess a 300W dehumidifier so next time i will be better prepared. Maintenance wise i will try to defoliate and lollipop my plants more aggressively to let in more air penetration.

Everything very Good . No Problems at all.Nice Strain for beginners.

This lady started growing like crazy. She's become really bushy and quite tall, with side branches being mostly equally high all over the plant. Flowers starting to develop well, but smell stays on the weak side. I'm expecting her to slow down and eventually stop growing over the next couple of days. Nutrient-wise I used more or less the same schedule as for my Northern Light lady, only did I now give her phosphorous grains at D7 already: * D7: 25g of organic granular phosphorus grains (bone meal) (6-16-0) * D20: 25g organic granular fertilizer (6-3-3) * D28: 35g organic granular fertilizer (6-3-3) * D35: 30g organic granular phosphorous grains (bone meal) (6-16-0) * D42: 20g of organic potassium grains (2-0-20) I'm really curious about how much (if any) she's still going to grow in size and how the buds will develop over the following weeks. Next few days, will be very warm and sunny!

4/15/25 Things are progressing nicely. Some plants dont seem to be doing too much but 3 of them or so that are really standing out. Im curious if some of these are going to be longer flowering time than anticipated with the very obvious sativa dominant plants.

Hi everyone this last few weeks have been crazy as you all can see this Gelato turned out to be a Photoperiodic plant. Week 17 in to flower for 2 weeks now. All was going well but I did not have much time to look after it. And got some light burn in the early stages did some training techniques and She looks is recovering now. Some nice pictures how big one of those can get when I wasn't expecting this plant to be a Photoperiodic. But let's see she turned out a female so that's great will be a nice surprise probably. Last week before flowering 😊😄😝 The plants did an excellent job last week. The repotting to the large pots has done them well. 👍 I have watered the plants 3 times now. First two times 5 liters of water, containing 1 tablet of RQS Easy Grow Booster. The third time 1.5 tablet for 5 liters of water. Mind ! It takes a while before the tablets are dissolved! 😹 The color of the new leaves is beautifully green. The VPD is now also perfect most of the time with a value of 1.0 👌 For that I had to increase the relative humidity to almost 70%. 😭 I attached the plants that are somewhat larger, to the plant sticks, with a plastic binding strip. In this way I pull the plants to the same height as the smaller plants. This gives me a nice match canopy. The lower side branches of the large plants will now develop more, but I will remove them later. 👽 The plants now get 18 hours of light, so that the shock is a little less when they go to 12/12. 🙏

Week 1 in the books and starting to give her a little nutrients. Starting off light and gradually increasing nutrients each time. Im going to feed every other watering until I have enough to get runoff and then I will be constantly checking with the ppm meter. She's off to a great start. Light got moved a little closer and dimmer is now at 60%.

Séptima semana de los esquejes, va todo bien y nada fuera de lo común. Empecé a mezclar agua purificada con el agua de la llave para tener una EC mas equilibrada ya que aun no me llega el producto que había comprado, pero de alguna manera tenia que solucionarlo y por el momento va bastante bien. Les realice una defoliación a los dos esquejes para que se definan bien sus brotes "principales" y estos tomen más fuerza. Los dos respondieron bastante bien a esté estrés. Hoy agregue la malla para scrog pero aún ninguna llega a la altura pero pronto lo harán. También estoy esperando que la Negra 44 que los acompaña crezca lo suficiente para comenzar la floración por esto deben quedar alrededor de 2-3 semanas de vegeta. La temperatura con el led apagado esta entre 16-17ºC y ya no puedo hacer más. Hice todo lo que estaba a mi alcance así que lo mas probable es que se mantenga en esos rangos durante el cultivo. Espero que esto no genere mayores dificultades en el cultivo. Cualquier recomendación sera bien recibida!! *Al final una foto del guardián del cultivo.
