Hey everyone! It’s been another fabulous week of the girls fattening up getting ready for the ever looming harvest time! The colas are huge and glistening like a glitter ball! The back right girl has been on flush since day 51, 2 more went on flush on day 53, and the final girl front right went on flush today, day 56! Over the week I gave 3 girls a really heavy defoliation taking the majority of fan leaves off to allow good airflow and try fattening up those lower buds. It’s still impossible to tell if I prefer defoliation or not but we are getting close to harvest so should have a definitive answer to that soon! The back right girl has had absolutely no defoliation or trimming through her life cycle. I still regularly think back to when we broke one of the girls and transplanted, the cannabis gods were on our side warning us 4 girls will be huge, we were very lucky or would be seriously short of space as of now. As the girls are going to be harvested at slightly different times to ensure each are at their optimum, I have had to construct a dry box. How I built my smell free DIY dry box: Take a large cardboard box, cut an extraction hole in the top at one end and mount some ducting and seal the gap around the edge. Cut a flap in the opposite end at the bottom which will be the passive intake and promoting a draft through the hanging buds. Poke some holes in each end of the box using a screwdriver and thread some thin rope or string through the box tying the ends together once finished to give you sturdy locations to hang some pegs from. Finally I attached an extra bit of card on one of the flaps at the top; this overlaps the slight gap in the top between the flaps that could allow light to enter. Once completed I put the ducting into one of the lower intakes of the tent; the negative pressure in the tent then uses the air in the dry box as a passive intake creating a smell free area to dry your cannabis outside of your grow tent. This also keeps a slight breeze flowing through the box to ensure even drying. Chugging right along, the buds on this one are miniscule compared to the pot-mate's. Makes me wonder if it's a slower genetic, or just a low yielder. No top feeding again, except for the Tropicana Cookies is the 1 gal. 12 hrs 45 minutes on.

10/27 - Today is technically day 28 since germination. I would normally wait three more days before doing this update, but enough has changed, I figured it warranted documenting it early. Today I did a solution change to half-strength week 3 guidelines per the Dyna-Gro feed schedule from their website. This gave me a ppm of 740 total, including 170 ppm tap (measured using Hanna Primo .5 conversion). This gives me 570ppm (1.14ec) of nutrients. The solution was changed about four hours prior to their nap time (of four hours in length). Shortly after the lights came back on I noticed this discoloration on her roots (as shown above in picture and video). Both ladies in the video were given the exact same solution at the same time and now show noticeably different ppms (Sour Diesel Auto - 770ppm; Amnesia XXL Auto - 720ppm). I'm not sure why they are exhibiting different reactions to the same solution. She doesn't seem to be showing any other negative effects at this point. Root growth is phenomenal and her vegetation has only accelerated since being topped. Just slightly concerned about what to do with the root issue. I have thought about adding Botanicare Hydroguard since the smaller buckets will run slightly warmer in temp. Once they start drinking more, I will bump them up to 5 gallon buckets, but that's not needed at this time. Any advice, questions, or observations are very welcome. This is my first DWC run and first run with Dyna-Gro. Edit: 10/29 - Added 2ml/gal Botanicare Hydroguard as a precaution regarding her potential root issue. Res temps are mid-seventies, so I'd say it's a safe move and some relatively cheap insurance. Edit: 10/31 - PPMs kept increasing up close to 800 from the original 740. Added pH'd water to dilute right close to 700ppm. Would have diluted more, but that was touching the bottom of the net pot. Removed two main fan leaves that were actively shading new growth nodes. Added second Mars Hydro SP150 and raised both to 18" above canopy.

D71/F24 - 11.29 - There's not much to say about these two. They didn't even hiccup after the defoliation, though it does appear their stretch has just about finished. They both have fat greasy prebuds right now, and the Passion Berry has particularly long pistils. A plant with both standard cellular respiration (occurring throughout the plant, including leaves and stems) and adequate root respiration will have a significantly higher ATP throughput than one restricted to only general cellular respiration in a limited way. Cellular respiration is the fundamental metabolic process that occurs in all living plant cells (roots, stems, leaves, flowers, seeds) to convert glucose into usable energy (ATP). It requires oxygen and produces carbon dioxide and water as byproducts. Root respiration is not a separate type of respiration, but rather a specific instance of cellular respiration occurring in the roots. Roots absorb oxygen from the air spaces in the soil to fuel their energy needs. Roots require a substantial amount of ATP for essential functions like nutrient and water absorption, as well as growth and maintenance of their tissues. The primary form of respiration in healthy plant roots is aerobic respiration, which is highly efficient, yielding up to 30-38 ATP molecules per glucose molecule. Anaerobic Respiration (Inefficient): If roots are deprived of oxygen (e.g., in waterlogged soil), they switch to anaerobic respiration, which is far less efficient, producing only 2 ATP molecules per glucose molecule and also generating alcohol, which can be toxic and kill the plant. Therefore, a plant with healthy, oxygenated roots performing efficient aerobic respiration in addition to the rest of the plant's cellular respiration has a much greater overall ATP production and energy capacity. A soil without organic matter will generally have a low Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC). Biochar is often prized for its potential to increase soil cation exchange capacity (CEC), but this effect is highly dependent on the specific properties of the biochar (feedstock and pyrolysis temperature) and the soil type to which it is applied. High-ash biochars, especially those produced at lower temperatures and applied to acidic or sandy soils, can significantly boost CEC by providing abundant binding sites for cations like calcium (Ca²⁺), magnesium (Mg²⁺), and potassium (K⁺). Biochar is more sustainable than typical organic matter for long-term soil improvement primarily due to its high stability and resistance to microbial decomposition, allowing it to persist in the soil for hundreds to thousands of years. This longevity provides a lasting positive effect on soil properties, particularly by increasing the cation exchange capacity (CEC) over time, while regular organic matter breaks down much faster. Biochar generally offers a much higher CEC than coco coir, though specific values vary greatly; while coco coir might sit around 40-60 cmol/kg, biochar can range from tens to over 200 cmol/kg, with sources like Acacia wood biochar or even coconut shell biochar often surpassing coco's capacity due to its porous structure, creating significantly more cation-binding sites for nutrients, making it superior for nutrient retention. Needs to be charged similar to coco but at a much higger rate. But shhhh.. It's a secret. Recommend a balanced ratio of key cations, particularly calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K). A widely accepted general "ideal soil" cation saturation ratio is approximately 65-85% Ca, 6-12% Mg, and 2-5% K. That's roughly what I give mine. Can even add N in its NH4+ form

Week 3 into flower and it’s time to top dress and seabird tea. Using 3 gallon potstop dress with 1/3 cup craft, 1/4 cup worm castings, 1/2 ocean forest, and small amount of kashi. Seabird tea: 4tbs seabird guano, recharge, and worm castings, Humic acid, and alfalfa meal in the tea bag. pH to around 6.6-6.8. Should give me around a 2.5-12.5-2.5 feed. As I used equal parts alfalfa to seabird. Probably a little more nitrogen with the worm castings. Brewed for 24 hours and fed straight, no water down. Just bought the mammoth lighting 6 bar LED, I got suckered into the green spectrum and the ability to penetrate the canopy using green light. Science backs it but science also backed Covid vaccines soooo I guess I’ll have to test it out myself. 😂 But so far enjoying my first grow back after a year off. Took a while to remember everything and dial everything back in. Only took me going to the dispensary for a year to remember it’s just way better to grow and press my own rosin instead of paying 50 for brown boo-boo or flower i can’t even smell before buying it. As a young lad I was in charge of a 30 light/ 600 plant grow house. This famous rap producer had a pool house in his back yard he turned into a grow house. I ended up being very successful there using their recipe and styles, Rockwell cubes 20-25 plants a light of some SFV og and synthetic nutients and eagle 20 for daysss. Was at about 2lbs a light. Eventually I moved on and this guys house was raided as he was sending drugs back east to gangs and money laundering. Major wake up call, as California finally started cracking down on all the growers stealing electricity. Never thought I’d be growing weed but when your best friends brother has a grow house and it’s trim season, all hands on deck so I got introduced to it then and because my attention to detail and passion to science they gave me a shot opporating a 600 plant facility. Also showed me the dark side of the business with pesticides and mold… and all the “growers” that have no sanitation techniques and wonder why they have to use eagle 20 and avid all run… if you have trust issues don’t go into the underground cannabis grows of the early 2010s. People be trying to sell powder mildew as frosty nugs. But fast forward a bunch of years I move to Washington and the cannibus industry is all sealed jars with labels. No smell test, no scales, no free dabs… it felt like gambling every time I gave them money for weed. Looks fire taste like dirt or looks fire taste fire cost 60 an eighth…. Not substainable for a daily stoner, so I got my first 2.7x2.7 grow tent and some soil and 100s of hours of YouTube videos to figure out how to grow roots and not plants. Growing in rockwool cubes is all about recipes and pH. Growing in soil is all about microorganisms, oxygen, and relationship building.

overall was great to grow and for it being my second grow I'm so glad how well it turned out some of the frostiest buds I've seen or smoked.

First attempt at supercropping on D1, stressful but didn’t turn out too bad 😂 D1 starting to preflower despite the days getting longer - and yes I’m sure it’s not an auto Both are growing rigorously

Transferring was a breeze and she loved it…looking at her explosive growth you can tell. Her vegetative state continues for the next 12 weeks hopefully into the dry season for a killer harvest.

Had to get rid of the Ice Cream Cake. The Mimosa & Unicorn Shoes is growing quite nicely.

Well the buds are stacking up pretty well. They have been trying to stretch a little this week so I have been LST branches as they pop up and trying to keep them from getting too close to the lights. Its a really tight fit so going forward I gotta be careful what strains I grow in this cabinet. I will have to get some small/short strains to grow in here and recommendations?
